And there’s Shev. We’re like on this random thing. It’s like a ski lift for like, the people who are just learning.

I have never skied before. (I guess) It’s really scary.

Um, (I’ve) got my helmet on.

I have no goggles, no gloves. I left them in my bag.

Notes

Notes

In this video clip, Catherine and her friend Shev are going skiing for the first time.

She’s going up a ski lift for beginner skiers and filming her experience.

She refers to the ski lift as a “massive thing”, because it’s quite long. She doesn’t know exactly what type of ski lift it is, so she calls it a “thing.” A thing for beginner skiers. We can call this type of ski lift a magic carpet.

Catherine also says that she’s wearing “the coolest snow gear ever.” This means that she really likes her ski clothes. In this context, “cool” means fashionable or attractive. The word “ever” emphasizes how much she likes them.

For example,

This is the worst movie ever! - this movie is really really bad / this is the worst movie I’ve seen.

Today is the coldest day ever! - today is very very cold / today is the coldest day I’ve experienced

She’s a little bit nervous and apprehensive because she’s never skied before. This is her first time skiing.

She has her ski helmet on to protect her head, but she forgot to take her ski gloves and goggles. She left them in her bag.

She also says that her ski boots are “killing her legs.” This means that her legs are hurting. Maybe her ski boots are too tight and painful.

At the end of her video she’s written “Check out the idiot skiing while videoing. I fell over just after switching it off.”

Check out means “Look at” or “See”.

For example, check out my new smart phone.

Check this out.

Wow, she’s beautiful, Check her out.

Idiot means a person who is stupid. She’s stupid because she’s trying to ski and film at the same time. She should concentrate on skiing. Moments after she turned her camera off, she fell over.
